1 Your hosts, Robbie and ali, are a unique and marvellous couple, an attraction in themselves. It is more than there uniqueness, though. It is kindness and acceptance, warmth and welcome, which elevate this couple beyond the sphere of host into the realm of experiences not to be missed. 2 The garden has levels and layers, huts and homes, and many, many things which once belonged on a boat. It has bikes and beautiful old signs, weathered gnomes and figurines. And daffodils. Everywhere daffodils. It is beautiful. 3 The Bothy elevates barbequing far beyond the ordinary. It is like a luxurious Norwegian winter retreat, all pine-wood, reindeer skins, and lounging cushions. It is home to an amazing, extraordinary barbeque. It is so cosy and warm that you could sleep here. We almost did. 4 It offers the kind of bath that everyone wants. Free standing, deep and comfortable. 5 a tray of goodies all for you with Belfast blended tea, Co antrim Coffee, Coolkeeran Cheddar with Dulse, Carrickfergus Farls, Organic Farm Eggs and Bangor Cordial. And the chocolate. The honeycomb chocolate. So good it didn’t last long enough to feature in photographs. 6 The teapot is a solid teapot. One that makes good tea. It has a jumper of its own. A knitted jumper with armholes for the spout and handle. The jumper looks good and keeps your tea very cosy. 7 You get a free felt finger puppet puffin. It is yours to keep. You won’t realise how much you wanted a felt finger puppet puffin until you get it. 8 a play house extraordinaire, Puffins Perch is ridiculously cute and fun. It will keep your kids happy for hours. Adult-kids and kid-kids alike. 9 It might be the stove or the bath, or the combination of the two. Or the thick walls and thatched roof. Maybe the layered, lovely garden. Or the history rich wall-hanging. Maybe it is the peace left by previous guests, or the calm of the hosts. I don’t know for sure. But there is peace at Fools Haven. 10 It is beautiful. Truly beautiful.
